The 4 year apprenticeship was to be mainly Electrical/Electronic based, but for the
first 6 months there was a mechanical element also. After 3 years into his apprenticeship, upgraded to a Student apprenticeship. This extended the training by 1 year. Trained on much MoD electronic equipment; RADAR, RADIO and test equipment. Specialising in RF calibration During the 5 year apprenticeship attended college to gain external qualifications. Attended the following colleges: Melton Mowbray College of Further Education Charles Keene College of Further Education Leicester Polytechnic Trent Polytechnic Attended civil service courses at Aldermaston, and calibration courses at Portsmouth Polytechnic. Coninued to further education after apprenticeship and eventually gained an HNC in Electronics & Communications from Trent Polytechnic in 1981. The civil service move to the Scottish Office, meant more courses; RF Calibration at Portsmouth Polytechnic; Data Call logging course in Fife; Nokia Actionet at Espoo, Finland; SIAE microwave course, Milan, Italy. After leaving the civil service in 1996, more courses; graphic design with graphic artist Keith Graham. In 1996, (Orange PCS Bristol), BTS course. Recruited to the British Ministry of Defence in 1971 at the age of 16 to undertake
a 4 years apprenticeship. This training was to be undertaken at the MoD
Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (R.E.M.E.) army department field station
of 35 Central Workshops, Old Dalby, Leicestershire. (This MoD establishment
was closed down in 1998) |
