Design and implementatiion of broadband wireless system across the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

Nokia (for Cellnet UK), BTS integration and modification of DE34 & DE21 equipment
Nokia (for Connect Austria ('ONE'), BTS Integration and fault finding. System optimisation, RF surveys.
Coverage surveys at 900 MHz to investigate planning application for 150m tower at Powmill. (Secretary of State for Scotland Investigation).
Produce consultative document on planning permission investigation for many hundreds of radio sites throughout Scotland. (For Radiant Consultancy Group)

TETRA projects:
Radio Coverage survey comparisons for police/fire service. 410 MHz to Highband. Produce comparison plots etc.
Radio Planning of Dolphin Telecom radio network. Use of Aircom Asset radio coverage planning tool.

PMR projects:
Nokia Argentina; Commissioning & integration of Actionet base stations. Commissioning of MX64 and MX128 mobile exchanges. New 800 Mhz PMR radio network to be implemented throughout South America.

Design new Police/Fire service radio system (WARC) consisting of many hundreds of radio sites. Advise on migration from band II to VHF. Close down UHF link system. Radio coverage surveys at high band. Advise on new radio sites to give 95% coverage of all A & B roads throughout Scotland. Clerk of Works duties to contractors.

Design new trunked radio system for Scottish Ambulance Service, to include data over radio. To be connected to new Command & Control system. Produce tender document. (Nokia Actionet) Clerk of works to installation contract teams. Integrate & commission & test to final system specifications.

Radio interference investigation on behalf of The Directorate of Telecommunications in close liaison with the RA/DTI.
Design new radio system for Security division of Holyrood Palace & Edinburgh Castle.

Radio coverage surveys for Mountain Rescue Service. Propose new radio sites.

Radio site surveys to investigate optimisation of existing Scottish Power PMR network. Propose 3 new radio sites. Use of RF Designer prediction tool.

Design new radio system for East of Scotland Water; (for consultants Coopers & Lybrand). Suggest trunked scheme similar to Nokia Actionet.

Design new radio scheme for Fife Regional Council (for consultants 'Radiant').

MICROWAVE LoS projects:
RF Line of Site surveys at 1.8/2.3 GHz for new Scottish police/fire service microwave backbone network. Many radio sites, some Greenfield.

Design new Microwave Digital Backbone Network for Scottish Office (SDBN). (7, 12, 23, 38 GHz). Line of Site Surveys. Site negotiations. Clerk of works duties to radio installers.

Line of Site surveys, (own 18-m trailer mast, 1.5Kw lamp, strobes, balloons etc) for new Digital Backbone Network (23, 38, 56 GHz) for Vodafone/Cellnet radio network in Highlands & Islands of Scotland.

SCADA Projects:
1997, 1998 RF & site surveys for Scottish Power for new Pole Mounted Automated Recloser System (PMAR). RF surveys at 400 MHz at many remote electricity transformers and poles using own survey equipment. Produce reports & propose suitable UHF link scenarios.

2003: Radio surveys for East Midlands Electricity SCADA system.

Broadcast Station projects:
Radio coverage surveys for Radio 106FM (now Century FM) for Radio Authority.
Radio coverage surveys for VibeFM for Radio Authority.
Investigation into proposed radio site location for PowerFM to increase their radio coverage on Lanzarote. Direct liason with station manager, installation of band II TX equipment and antennas. Installation of associated microwave link equipment. Montaña Mina and Femes hilltop radio sites.

HF Systems:
Design new 5KW HF system for Scottish Office Fisheries Protection Agency. (4, 6, 8 MHz) Install all aerials, commission and test system.
Maintain & improve above radio network. Change antenna types.

PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT:
Army Equipment Calibration Centre, Ministry of Defence, R.E.M.E. Old Dalby, Leicestershire. RF Calibration engineer. Bench testing of RF test equipment to Echelon III standards. (DC to 40 GHz)

Microwave section, Ministry of Defence, R.E.M.E., Old Dalby, Leicestershire. RF technician. Bench testing of RF sub-assemblies associated with RADAR and guided weapons. Calibration of in-house RF test equipment to Echelon II standards. Specialist in IFF Radar.
